This week's events ...

Thank you to everyone who attended our special events this week! More than 200 people showed up to see Big Joe on Tuesday morning, and were very generous in their support of the Friends of the Upton Town Library!

On Wednesday afternoon, we learned about our environment, many problems it is facing, and what we can do to help, from 9-year-old Carrick McCullough and his dad, Colin. Here is a link to the handout they provided, and a link to their website: http://www.ourrenewablenation.org/

Here is a link to some Websites for Students, all relating to the environment.

In case the link above, to the handout is not working, here's the info:

"Our Renewable Nation is our eco-video project for kids that we’re planning for May/June 2009. We’ll be crossing the U.S. in our veg-oil powered Beetle to visit various renewable energy sites and interview people/companies that have made impacts in sustainability. We’re planning to distribute our video free to schools nationally with the mission of inspiring and empowering kids to create a renewable and sustainable future. Our nationally award-winning eco-videos have been seen by over 200,000 people, and our cross-country video project is an attempt to bring the message of sustainability to a much larger audience. You can learn more about our project at:

www.OurRenewableNation.org

We welcome your financial support of our project! We are just hoping to cover the costs of our project, and we’re doing everything we can to keep our travel expenses to a minimum! Your donation can be made on our website or at our mailing address at the bottom of the page. Also, check out our Postcard Program, our new fundraiser – we mail 5 postcards to a child of your choice from all over the U.S.!

6 Ways to Live More Sustainably:

-Call MassSave at 1-866-527-7283 or your local utility company for a free home energy audit. Take advantage of the many rebates and incentives to make your home more energy-efficient
-Switch to green electricity – call your electric company and ask about switching to 100% renewable electricity, such as National Grid’s Green-Up program
-Reusable shopping bags, such as Chico Bags
-Reusable stainless steel water bottles, such as Klean Kanteen
-Eat more vegetarian / local / organic food
-Follow electric and plug-in car news, and tell others about it
